About

I’m an athlete who runs and cycles

I’m a relatively fast runner, but I have no chance of winning anything other than a finishers medal. I started cycling in the summer of 2011 and quickly turned it into a regular part of my life. I got hit by a car in September, 2011, while riding my bike to work. I ended up with a really badly broken arm and months of physio.

I like this quote about running: “Running is real and relatively simple—but it ain’t easy.” I try to get out for a run at least three times a week, and most weeks I am successful at doing that. Usually I run somewhere between five and ten kilometres on weekdays, and longer on Sunday mornings.

On Sundays, I run with a group at the Running Room (Commerce Court location) and we generally run at least 10k and as much as 35k. If I am training for a race then I’ll run whatever the training schedule calls for. In May of 2010 I ran my first marathon (42.2k). Since then I’ve run two more. In October, 2010, I ran the Toronto Marathon and in May, 2011, I ran the Vancouver Marathon. In May 2012, I hope to run Vancouver again.

I ride an older Trek Madone SL 5.2 (2006, all-carbon frame). I enjoy the speed and freedom that comes with riding the bike. Some day maybe I’ll compete in a duathlon (run/bike/run). When I get the chance, I do longer rides up north of the city with some other cycling friends. We generally ride around 60k, but sometimes longer. I haven’t been on my bike since the accident, but hope to get back to riding in 2012.

I’m a writer with a geeky, techie slant

I work in marketing for a well-known Internet services company in Toronto, Canada, where I do everything from blogging to writing, to multimedia production, website maintenance and whatever else they throw my way. I really like my job.

I happily hack around on computers and spend too much time on the Internet. I’m fairly adept at HTML and CSS. I know just enough about PHP to be dangerous.

I like watching all-news channels. I’ll watch the news all day if given the chance. I have a diploma in television broadcasting and a post-graduate diploma in journalism. I’ve worked on some big-budget Hollywood feature films and I used to be an audio editor for a Toronto all-news radio station.

I use a variety of social networks and tools including Facebook, Twitter and foursquare. I also like tracking my fitness through the social fitness network DailyMile. I’ve met many people online that I consider good friends, despite having never met them in person.
